| Summary | 0006519: Continuous signalling: use of external packages | ||||||||
| Description | The continuous signalling specification refers to and uses rules defined in other external packages (e.g. advanced parameterization in 5.2.1 or behaviour types in 5.4.5). However, these external packages are not referenced in the document (in particular in chapter 2). In my opinion, dependency between extension packages shall be reduced to the absolute minimum and if such a dependency cannot be avoided, then the following rules shall be observed: 1. The extension package whose rules are used (source extension package) shall be referenced in the dependent extension package 2. The part of the dependent extension package that uses the rules of the source extension package shall be optional 3. When using features described in the point 2, both packages shall be referenced in the language clause of the module The above defined rules make sure that extension packages don't automatically enable features of other extension packages which is confusing for the users (as they might not be familiar with those extension packages) and imposes unnecessary requirements on TTCN-3 tool vendors as the other packages might not be supported by them. In case of the continuous signalling package I propose following: 1. Remove syntactical features of the advanced parameterization package from the chapter 5.2.1 as they are used only in examples 2. Change the mode type defined in 5.4.5.1 to an optinal feature dependent on the behaviour type extension package according to the above specified rules 3. Simplify the example in 5.4.2.2 so that it doesn't use behaviour types (the mode definition shall be used directly) 4. Swap chapters 5.4.5.1 and 5.4.5.2, because mode type is optional and dependent on parameterized mode definition 5. Add missing reference to the behaviour type specification | ||||||||
