Most Forge repositories for published specifications are [public](https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/public_access/public_access.html). This means that anyone can access, read and download them. However, for many other actions - such as [making a CR](How-To/Create-a-CR) - you are required to log in. This guide explains how to do that.
## Step 1 - Get to the log-in page
Head to the [ETSI Forge Sign-In page](https://forge.etsi.org/rep/users/sign_in).

## Step 2 - Username and password
Use your EOL (ETSI Online) username and password. These are the same credentials you use to log in to the [ETSI Portal](https://portal.etsi.org) or the [3GPP Portal](https://portal.3gpp.org). So if you have ever contributed a document, you already have the credentials you need to make changes in the Forge!
You are now logged in. Congratulations!
## Step 3 (Optional) - Update your profile
If you have never logged in before, the ETSI Forge will have automatically created a new Forge profile for you. To do this, go to your [Profile page](https://forge.3gpp.org/rep/profile).
Editing your profile allows you to:
* **Set your full name.** This is the name that people will see when you do things on the Forge, such as commit changes or raise issues. It defaults to your EOL username, but you can change it.
* **Set your avatar.** This allows you to set a picture for your profile. Because pictures are fun! But it also helps people quickly and easily recognise who each change or commit belongs to.

## Step 4 (Optional) - Set up an SSH/GPG key
If you have never logged in before, you may see a pop-up prompt similar to the following:
>>>
You won't be able to pull or push project code via SSH until you add an SSH key to your profile
>>>
> You won't be able to pull or push project code via SSH until you add an SSH key to your profile
This warning is relevant to you if you want to use `git` to connect directly to the ETSI TC LI repository from your command line or development tools. If so, you can [follow Gitlab's instructions for how to add an SSH key](https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/ssh.html).
If you only intend to interact with the Forge via the Forge website, then you can safely ignore this prompt- you will still be able to do everything you need without setting up an SSH or GPG key. |
