The ap_r* vote is now over. The decision was decidedly for the OLD_WRITE 

filter.  This adds a note in the STATUS file to ensure that it gets
modified to use the correct functions before we release.

For completeness, the vote was:

	macros:		rbb wrowe
	old_write:	gstein stoddard coar ben jwoolley
