<p><em>필터(filter)</em>는 서버가 보내거나 받는 자료에
적용되는 작업이다. 클라이언트가 서버에게 보내는 자료는
<em>입력필터(input filter)</em>가 처리하고, 서버가
클라이언트에게 보내는 자료는 <em>출력필터(output filter)</em>가
처리한다. 자료에 여러 필터를 사용할 수 있고, 직접 필터의
순서를 지정할 수 있다.</p>
<p>아파치는 이어받기(byte-range) 요청 등을 처리하기위해
내부적으로 필터를 사용한다. 또, 설정 지시어를
사용하여 선택가능한 필터를 제공하는 모듈도 있다.
