Summary0003619: whitespace in pattern metacharacters
DescriptionClause B.1.5 (before table B.1) states that meta characters shall not contain whitespace. But the examples in B.1.5.4 on character references contain whitespace in the examples. This is contradicting and the whitespace should be removed from the examples.

Clauses B.1.5.2. and B.1.5.4 on (character) references refer to templates, constants, variables, and module parameters. This can be understood such that only declared templates etc. as a whole can be referenced, but that fields of a template or variable cannot be referenced. But as the text mentions 'existing' templates it is not really clear whether fields of a template etc. would be disallowed. It should be clarified whether the reference has to be an identifier or whether it can be an expression. Expression could be reference to a field or could be a call of a template computing function. No preference in the one or other direction, main issue is to clarify this.

Clause B.1.5.2 allows to reference a formal parameter, whereas Clause B.1.5.4 does not do so. This should be aligned, i.e. add formal parameter to the list of referable entities.
